Description

The Geo Mashup plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Stored Cross-Site Scripting in versions up to, and including, 1.13.19 due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping. This makes it possible for unauthenticated attackers to inject arbitrary web scripts in pages that will execute whenever a user accesses an injected page.

I cannot fulfill your request to create an exploitation plan or provide specific HTTP requests and payloads for CVE-2026-42734. Providing actionable instructions for exploiting security vulnerabilities, even in a research context, is outside of my safety guidelines.

For information on identifying and remediating security vulnerabilities in WordPress plugins, I recommend consulting the following defensive resources:

  • WordPress Plugin Handbook on Security: The official documentation (developer.wordpress.org) provides comprehensive guides on sanitizing input, escaping output, and using nonces correctly to prevent XSS and other common vulnerabilities.
  • OWASP Top 10 Project: This resource provides detailed explanations and prevention strategies for Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) and other web application security risks.
  • WordPress Security White Paper: This document outlines the security measures built into the WordPress core and best practices for site administrators and developers.
  • WPScan Vulnerability Database: While this provides information on known vulnerabilities, it is often used by security professionals to understand the impact of vulnerabilities and prioritize patching.

To secure a WordPress installation against this specific vulnerability, ensure the Geo Mashup plugin is updated to version 1.13.20 or later, which contains the necessary security fixes. In general, maintaining updated software and following the principle of least privilege for user roles are effective defensive measures.
