It can do this passively, by replacing content as it is displayed, leaving your database unchanged. It can do this actively, by updating the content as it is created or edited, leaving the display of your site efficient as ever. It can even update all of the posts or comments all at once, in a server friendly way.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>If you need to run the plugin on multiple sites, there is an export and an import feature to save effort and eliminate mistakes.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>This plugin will help you clean up your site’s content. In its simplest form, it finds one word you are using and puts in another word. You might want to replace can replace the word “firetruck” with “f**k” or make your “2112 Rates and Fees” become your “2113 Rates and Fees” everywhere that text exists.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>The reasons that you might want to do this are many.  Here are seven I thought about as I made this plugin:\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cul>\n\u003Cli>You’ve been told by advertisers they can’t advertise on your site because of the use of high risk words.\u003C\u002Fli>\n\u003Cli>Terms that were ok to use one year, are now considered highly offensive\u003C\u002Fli>\n\u003Cli>You’ve found you are blocked from schools and homes with content filters that are active.\u003C\u002Fli>\n\u003Cli>A lawsuit\u002FDMCA issue has forced you to remove references to a certain topic or company\u003C\u002Fli>\n\u003Cli>Your phone number\u002Fcompany name\u002Flast name has changed and you want to update it on your site.\u003C\u002Fli>\n\u003Cli>You wish to add hyperlinks to every reference of a specific word.\u003C\u002Fli>\n\u003Cli>You’ve removed\u002Freplaced a plugin and you now have short codes that don’t work and you need to update them all\u003C\u002Fli>\n\u003Cli>You’ve reference a year or date in posts or titles and you want your content to appear current.\u003C\u002Fli>\n\u003C\u002Ful>\n\u003Cp>There are other plugins that do similar functions, including the Word Replacer Plugin, which formed the foundation of this plugin. However, the “Plus” in “Word Filter Plus” means that I’ve added a number of extra features.  These Plus features include:\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cul>\n\u003Cli>Passive and Active modes to allow you to temporarily or permanently make the changes to your post content.\u003C\u002Fli>\n\u003Cli>Batch mode is introduced already optimized to clean LARGE websites and cause no performance hit upon page load once the cleanup has been completed.\u003C\u002Fli>\n\u003Cli>Import and Export features allow you to configure your replacements on one website or even in a spreadsheet and import them into your other sites.\u003C\u002Fli>\n\u003Cli>Improved security around both the database access and the settings screens.\u003C\u002Fli>\n\u003Cli>Excerpts are now included in the filtered content.\u003C\u002Fli>\n\u003Cli>Improved on-screen help content.\u003C\u002Fli>\n\u003Cli>Reworked the table structure to allow better default behavior.\u003C\u002Fli>\n\u003C\u002Ful>\n\u003Ch4>Features\u003C\u002Fh4>\n\u003Col>\n\u003Cli>Replace one word or phrase with another word  or phrase in your posts, pages, titles and excerpts.\u003C\u002Fli>\n\u003Cli>Moderate the content others are placing on your website in comments.\u003C\u002Fli>\n\u003Cli>Enforce editing standards upon people who are contributing posts to your site before the fact, not after.\u003C\u002Fli>\n\u003Cli>Use regex to replace a word when it is used in a specific context\u003C\u002Fli>\n\u003Cli>Use regex to parse matching text, extract values and build a replacement text using those variables\u003C\u002Fli>\n\u003Cli>Passively filter your content as it is displayed, leaving the database unchanged.\u003C\u002Fli>\n\u003Cli>Actively filter your content as it is saved, updating the database once, causing no delays as your content is displayed.\u003C\u002Fli>\n\u003Cli>Update all existing content on your site in batches, being friendly to your server.\u003C\u002Fli>\n\u003Cli>Create the replacement list in any spreadsheet tool and import it into the site. The SCuD will disable all ShortCode processing for any post.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>SCuD is written to prevent any collateral damage. After the post content is displayed, it activates the all previously disabled ShortCodes again. However, if you have a plugin that replaces your commenting system, a plugin such as Intense Debate, your blog may be suffering from a build up of repressed spam. If left untreated, this could drive your MySQL server to a mental breakdown.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>Certain plugins allow all comments to remain in your local database – even the ones that they themselves consider spam.  On some blogs the spam comments can out number real comments a thousand to one. If the spam comments are never purged – this can create a real mess. If you have\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>Spam Catharsis was originally written in February of 2011 to provide a purging relief to a popular culture site that had built up several hundreds of thousands of spam comments – none of which were visible to visitors. It was only visible as their database grew and grew. Once the commenting plugin was removed, the dashboard of the site was nearly non-functional.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>The Spam Catharis plugin operates on a daily basis removing from your database any spam comments that are more than 15 days old. The first purge that executes may take a while to complete, depending upon how bad your situation is. After the first run, the plugin embarks on a daily maintenance routine so to make your site operate as fast and efficiently as it always had.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>There is no configuration. There is no option screen.
